You’d Think 8 Seconds Would Be Easy

Just one tiny video.

Hammer breaking kitchen tile during demo
Not AI. Just me and a hammer. Kitchen Demo Day 1.

The wild part? My VEO3 kitchen ended up looking a lot like this — and not because I prompted it that way. I started with a kitchen renovation demo, something clean and modern, showcasing a fresh backsplash and warm lighting. The kind of clip that looks like it took five minutes to create. Everyone who talks about AI makes it sound like that’s the reality.

Reality check: it took hours.

AI kitchen demo waiting for renovation
Before anything sleek or cinematic: this was the vibe. Just an AI kitchen waiting for demolition.

I used VEO3.ai, an AI tool that generates short videos from a prompt (max 2k characters). Right now, output is capped at 8 seconds. And this is where my two-plus years of prompt engineering really paid off. This was my moment to flex — translating vision into visuals in less time than most people would need.

Prompting at this level is basically directing. Every missing detail leaves room for hallucinations. Angle, action, lighting, palette — if you don’t spell it out, the model fills it with something odd. Like drywall falling off the ceiling mid-renovation. (Yes, that happened.)

Even with experience, I had to dial this in across multiple versions. I got a version I was happy (enough) with in VEO3, then ran a side-by-side with Gemini. Same idea, different interpretations. The screenshots tell the story better than words — and I’ll share the video soon on YouTube.

This isn’t just about what AI can do. It’s about what you can do with it — with the right guide. Whether you’re a founder, a team, a creative, or just starting to share work in a cinematic way.

Because here’s the thing: you might see that slick IKEA-style clip, where a cardboard box explodes into a fully furnished room. You might assume it’s magic. It’s not. It’s craft.

Most people haven’t even gotten ChatGPT to write them a tight paragraph. So how are they supposed to prompt an 8-second commercial with cinematic vibes?

That’s where I come in. I’m building a marketplace of ready-to-use video prompts. And in the meantime, I’m creating videos for founders, marketers, and anyone trying to show — not just tell — what they do.

Sometimes, 8 seconds is all it takes to show what you’re capable of.

The final 8 seconds. Clean, cinematic, and exactly what I prompted. From the open fridge to the lighting angle — all of it was engineered by me. And no, it did not take five minutes.

Want to see the video? I’ll be posting it soon on YouTube — and I’ll share the link here once it’s live.
