Salesforce Cuts 44% of Support Roles as AI Takes Over

Salesforce just confirmed one of the largest AI-driven workforce shifts to date. CEO Marc Benioff announced a 44% reduction in customer support headcount, from 9,000 to 5,000 employees. The move comes as AI agents now handle roughly half of all customer conversations — a sharp contrast to Benioff’s July 2025 remarks that AI would augment rather than replace jobs.

The cuts equal about 5% of Salesforce’s total workforce. At the same time, internal AI systems are tackling a long-standing backlog of 100M+ uncalled sales leads — a clear sign that automation changes both headcount and productivity.

To capture the moment visually, we created an 8-second miniature reveal film. Inside a steel box: rows of empty cubicles beside glowing AI consoles. At the center, a machine continuously swallows sales leads — a looping metaphor for where the future of work may be headed.

💡 AI prompt example inspired by this story:

Prompt: “Act as a business analyst. Summarize how recent AI workforce reductions (like Salesforce’s 44% cut in support staff) could affect both customer experience and employee morale. Provide three concise takeaways a leadership team could use in their next board meeting.”
